Free to play game models have been around for a few years. Advertising(most of which is no longer in-game) and item malls that allow players to purchase in-game credits for special edition items and more are the most prominent free to play designs. Item malls for games generally contain superficial items to change your characters looks and outfit. Some do contain useful items for leveling and weapons&armor but these are generally equal to whats already available in-game. Using item malls can enhance ones game experience but is definitely not required to have immense fun in game.
